Turn up the heat with Gazpacho Dip

Today’s Health-e-Recipe helps you ring in the New Year with pizzazz: Gazpacho Dip with Garlic Pita Chips. Gazpacho is a cold Spanish soup made with tomatoes, onions and other super-healthful vegetables.

This dip can be blazing if you use some hot prepared salsa — or you can keep it on the mild side. To pack every serving with cancer-fighting vitamins and phytochemicals, our recipe features fresh vegetables, plus lime juice, sweet rice vinegar and cilantro.

It’s easy to make your own garlic pita chips, too — and far healthier than serving packaged chips. Whole-wheat pita bread contains fiber and very little fat, so the olive oil cooking spray can be used lightly just to allow the “chips” to get crisp in the oven. An added bonus is their heavenly, garlicky fragrance as they bake. Garlic is also a cancer-fighting food, thanks to its phytochemicals.
